During Studio Explorations this week, we are making bracelets and necklaces.  While this is an artistic endeavor, children are also exersizing their fine motor skills as they crochet rubber band bracelets, string glass beads, and create original Fimo beads.  I have also enjoyed seeing mathematical thinking, as some children are choosing to create patterns, count, and make various three-dimensional bead shapes.

Eagle Post Office 2014

In its second week of business, the Eagle Post Office has been bustling with energy! Valentines have been addressed and are making their way to blue mailbox out in the Courtyard each day. 

During Explorations, the Eagles take on the job of ensuring all valentine mail is delivered to the proper mailbox. Each day, we have successfully delivered all mail and have been able to close the mail room early!

We have determined that this is "the nicest post office ever" because if someone has forgotten a stamp or made a mistake on the address, the mail room employees simply identify the missing information, make corrections, and/or add a stamp so that all mail makes it to its destination before Valentine's Day.

The space study group began building their own version of a Mars rover today!  Last week, the study group poured over books and photos, drew plans, and began collecting materials that might be useful for building a rover.  Today the children used a diagram from one of our resource books to begin making the various parts of a rover.  As you can see, they built a solar panel, cameras, low gain antenna, magnet array, and wheels.  The Eagles decided to label the parts so the group could keep track and anyone looking at the rover will know what's what!
